What is External Loop Recorder (ELR)?

An External Loop Recorder is a small, medical device that measures your heart’s activity, such as rate and rhythm for extended period of time. This device is a compact light weight patch to detect heart activity monitoring from 24 hours -14 days. It is usually water and dust proof.

Indication of ELR

  • Used to detect undiagnosed syncope and pre-syncope.
  • To identify undiagnosed irregular heartbeats or palpitations.
  • To assess risk for future heart-related events in certain conditions, HCM, Post Heart attack.
  • To see how well a pacemaker is working.
  • To determine how well treatment for complex arrhythmias is working.

Test Details

  • The ELR system, primarily consist of a patch, like a small device put on the chest.
  • The patch records arrhythmia episodes, which are stored in the device.
  • The device is dust and water proof allowing all indoor and outdoor activity.
  • You’re encouraged to participate in your normal activities during ELR Test.
